Although workers' rights are protected by law, they are not always respected in practice. As an individual, you might not have much influence on your employer, but when workers join together in a union, they have much more power. The union helps you stay informed about your rights and provides free professional and legal assistance to help you protect and further improve them in practice.

Union rights are among fundamental human rights – workers' rights to organize, engage in collective bargaining, and strike are guaranteed by the Constitution and the Croatian Labor Act, among other laws.

As union members, you have the right to elect a union representative from among yourselves. This person will represent you to your employer, ensure your voice is heard, and help you and your colleagues solve workplace issues more easily. Union representatives enjoy legal protection, meaning the employer cannot punish or dismiss them for their union activities. Our union will provide training and support for the representative you choose to ensure they can represent you effectively, and we will provide them with all the necessary professional and legal assistance.

Furthermore, only a union has the power to negotiate with the employer and sign a collective agreement. Many financial benefits – such as travel allowances, holiday bonuses, seniority pay, and jubilee awards – are not regulated by law in Croatia. Instead, they must be secured through collective agreements. While a collective agreement applies to all employees, the union's bargaining power and its ability to win better rights and benefits depend significantly on how many workers are union members.

The union also plays a significant role in ensuring better working conditions, as well as health and safety at work. The tendency of some employers to cut costs on safety, regardless of the consequences, is limited and prevented by health and safety representatives. These representatives, appointed by the union or elected by all employees, monitor the implementation of safety measures and suggest new improvements.
